Connectivity to the Holy Island
Omkareshwar is well connected to major cities in Madhya Pradesh and neighboring states. Depending on your starting point, you can choose between air, rail, or road travel. Here is a breakdown of the best routes and options.
1. By Air (Nearest Airport)
The nearest airport is Devi Ahilyabai Holkar Airport (IDR) in Indore, located approximately 77 km away.
β’ It is connected by direct flights to major Indian cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Mumbai.
β’ From Indore Airport, you can easily hire a private taxi directly to Omkareshwar. The drive takes about 2.5 to 3 hours.
2. By Train (Nearest Railway Stations)
While Omkareshwar has a local station (Omkareshwar Road - 12 km), it has limited connectivity. The most convenient railway junctions are:
- Khandwa Junction (KNW): Located 75 km away. A major railway junction connected to Central, South, and Western India. Taxis and buses are readily available from Khandwa to Omkareshwar.
